NOA update - Obstacle Zones, Width, Detect bus stops, Better Bluetooth and more!

Version 1.10.0 is out

Hello everyone,

The whole team at biped is wishing you a very happy new year! In the last few weeks, we have been working on an exciting update of NOA (version 1.10.0).

1. Obstacle detection zones

Using a dropdown option in the App, NOA can now detect obstacles:

  • at the head level only

  • at the upper body level only

  • or full body

With head level detection only, NOA only warns you about obstacles likely to be missed by the cane. A wall would not trigger a warning as the cane reaches it, but low hanging branches, traffic signs, tailgates, etc. are all detected.

Based on our tests, this removes over 80% of the sounds generated.

2. Lateral obstacle detection

With another dropdown menu in the app, you are now able to change the lateral detection range, and choose between:

  • narrow

  • normal

  • wide

Narrow mode is very useful indoors or in crowded areas. Combine Narrow mode and Head-level only for very specific triggers in crowded scenes.

3. Multilingual

NOA now speaks Czech, Dutch, English (UK), English (US), French, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Polish, Slovak, Spanish

4. Better Bluetooth

We reworked NOA to bring a more stable connection between NOA and smartphone, making it faster, and fail-proof.

5. Smart warnings

NOA will now automatically detect and warn you about:

  • losing internet connection

  • losing smartphone connection

  • losing headphones connection

6. Settings summary button

You can now double-click on the Select button of NOA to get a full settings summary that will detail:

  • battery

  • internet connection

  • smartphone connection

  • obstacle range

  • obstacle zone

  • obstacle width

  • holes detection

7. Detect bus stops

A new AI object detection class was added! Based on frequent requests we had, NOA can now detect bus stops, read the bus number, find the bus shelter and provide these descriptions in a few seconds. Bus stops is the now last class on the A1 button.

As usual, feel free to reach out if you have ideas or feedback!

Thank you for the continuous support, the last update was deployed in 10 countries, and we’re excited to keep expanding the use of NOA.
